The Uorfi Javed Factor!
She has added an O in her name. She has dropped her surname. She has given most of the Bollywood heroines and models a run for their money only by ‘showing up’ anywhere on the streets of Mumbai. With a continuous hike in her fan-base for her ‘out of the box’ dressing which is only Oomph, she has made A-Lister stars to notice her too. Ranveer Singh mentioned her name in some context on Koffee with Karan, and her fights with Chetan Bhagat, Farah Khan Ali (wife of DJ Aqueel) and actress Chahat Khanna have been ‘covered well’ by the Bollywood beat media guys to know that she has arrived!
Like in our political circle, Bollywood too is also undergoing transformation in terms of media. More and more individuals have accepted “Social Media” as their new tool as compared to age-old Bombay Times, HT Cafe, Filmfare or DNA After Hours. The new trend in this “Bollywood beat” is not that of journalists anymore. The trend is of young boys/girls ‘mobile phone/handy-cam reporters/ photographers’ who represent individuals (Manav Manglani/Viral Bhayan etc) and post on social media. These guys have followers on social media in millions including A-lister celebs. Now in fact, these social media guys are given preferences whenever there is any new launch of a movie, or a naming ceremony or an airport arrival.
Coming back to Uorfi, whatever she wears is exhibiting a lewd and lascivious display of her body in public spaces, the complaint by BJP Leader Chitra Wagh to Police Commissioner said. Chitra Wagh has asked for legal action to be taken against Uorfi. Uorfi in her own style thwarted this complaint and went to an extend of abusing Chitra Wagh giving her an explanation that her ‘nipples and vagina’ can’t be seen so it does not come under any kind of ‘vulgarity’ (Mind you-She used the word “BC” while addressing Chitra Tai)
My two bits on this-Chitra Tai, Uorfi is just where your eyes went but let me tell you something afresh-have you seen other actresses including the A grade && the B graders, models, TV stars, star kids, and any female whom you consider as a celebrity? Uorfi does it louder, whereas these others are not that BOLD, but it is equally explicit! Pick up any celebrity and check their instagram pages and you will be shocked to see how ‘their world’ on Instagram looks! Problem is not this for Chitra Tai, what I can understand from her, is that because of such a public display of body, our children now are getting exposed to this. Our girls want to wear tank tops, hold glasses of wine, go to meet doctors for correction surgeries, smoke up and God knows what all after following such celebrities on social media! Problem lies here. Our girls/wives don’t understand it is their (celebs) job to look good continuously. There is a huge struggle for them too. It is not easy to give up sweets or carbs for months and years and undergo the knife every time. It is expensive also for the newcomers but then, it has to be done.
But then on the other hand if I think from Uorfi’s point of view-in this so called Bollywood if she wants to make her presence felt, how does she do it? She does not have a Saif Ali Khan or a Boney Kapoor as her father, she does not have Karan Johar to launch her, then she thinks of such out of the box concepts which work and boom, she is famous! The moot question is why such women including those aspiring actresses or one movie/two movie stars do it, is it because Bollywood has got stuck only to its top 8 to 10 heroines? None of them want to try newcomers or even risk their projects. Then how do these newcomers make their mark? Then they stick to this modus-operandi of skin show or being loud mouth or sometimes being both and grab eyeballs. Didn’t we have a Rakhi Sawant before?
One correction step that is easily possible and with no harm to anyone is we can instruct the media and its coverages. See, people will come and go and do mad things, but I feel it is the responsibility of the media and these new social media entrepreneurs to take care. If you don’t cover them everyday, the lesser impact will be. But then again it is a double aged sword. Now for example if Viral Bhayani who has 4.8 million followers including top actors, if he shares a photo or a video of Uorfi, he is not doing this free of cost right? Then who will pay Viral if he follows moral policing? He won’t stop ‘business’ just because for one it is freedom and for the other it is vulgar. End of the day, it is SHOW BUSINESS. And mind you, I am not siding Uorfi, has anyone gone and seen series on Alt Balaji and other apps? It is semi-porn in the name of entertainment!!!
So, it is a tough world out there, protecting our kids from such situations has become practically impossible! Have trust and faith in your upbringing, will be my mantra for my kids!
