Fabulous lives of Bollywood Wives…Review!
The title of the show on Netflix was enough for me to watch both seasons, back-to-back on the weekend. Both the seasons got over and I went back to Episode 1 of the Season 1 and even last night me and my wife ended up watching one episode (just for the kick; by the way we watch Friends too) before calling it a night.
Now, what has intrigued me to watch the show again and again? I found out the reasons. The reason I watch it, or rather I am forcibly watching it, is because my wife has just not gotten over the content of the show just like me. The show has everything a typical housewife dreams about! It has a dreamy life, glamour, no money problem, no Maharaj or Driver problem, no responsibilities to shoulder, no in-laws ka tension, and only glitter (clothing) all the way. One day even these housewives who are in love with the show want the same following on instagram they have, the stardom they enjoy, the food they eat, the vacations they have and the clothes they wear, don’t they. But is this all true? My gut feel says a big NO! Being brought up in the area where these guys live and seeing this life up close, bro, believe me the series is one big facade.
There are only two things Director Karan Johar has tried to show. Either he wanted to show the world his own life (minus the work part), OR he wanted to show what all happens in the lives of these superstar wives, which we all should AVOID even in our dreams. He played it smart!
If this is the life of wives of Bollywood then God bless the rest! A, the wives portrayed by all 4 characters namely Maheep Kapoor, Bhavana Pandey, Neelam Kothari Soni and Seema Sajdeh (Khan) are not A listers. Yes, they do hang out with the A-listers such as Suszaane Khan, Gauri Shahrukh Khan, Mallaika Arora, Alia Bhatt, Deepika, but that does not constitute them as A Listers? In fact what I see or follow little of these actual A-listers such as Gauri, Deepika, Alia or Sussazane I am sure this is not the way they actually live. IN fact Gauri did a guest appearance on the show and she did actually come across as more composed, classy and a very educated one. Not once did she brag about her clothes, her earnings, her husband’s status in the glamour world, and neither did she abuse even once. Then why did this show depicted these 4 Bollywood wives characters in this way– loud, lousy and too much?

But bro, at the end it WAS a show, right? But what this show has done, it has got the already half modernised women living in metros to start dreaming of the life these guys live, which is in actuality a FACADE. Well, am sure ‘TWAT” and FUCK are not used as commonly in our homes as these guys used it, as a matter of fact none of these 4 women too must be using it. No, they also don’t vacation in 7 star properties and neither do they shop in Rolls royces. They lead a very normal life and have their own struggles. They have depression, bad hair days, Am i looking fat days, if the kid is smoking weed, or daughter dating problems to look out for too, just like all of us. Also look at the irony of the show, on one hand if they are shown to be ultra modern, free spirited women who love drinking and partying and being carefree– they are also shown keeping a tab on their daughters as to what time they are getting back home after a party. Also the fact that they are shown as A listers, then why were they acting like a kid in a candy shop when they met Ranveer Singh? Ironical isn’t it?
Out of the 4 the actual person who has lived it all just like depicted in the show (not anymore) is Seema Sajdeh who also happens to be my favourite in the show. She was a wife of Sohail Khan and sister-in-law to Salman Khan the actual Superstar of Bollywood. So we can give it to her for not appearing fake as in reality too she has seen it all. Just look at her house, it too defines her ‘class’. Rest be it a Neelam or Bhavana or a MAheep their houses are very normal. Actor Chunky Pandey’s time was then, but then little bit of stardom in the house today is actually now because of their daughter Ananya who is rated in the top 5 in the business today. Neelam WAS a superstar and Maheep’s daughter is getting launched by KJo. Even if Maheep’s family has seen the stardom, (Anil Kapoor, Sridevi , Arjun, Sonam and so on) has it actually passed it on to her or not so much of a star husband, Sanjay? Won’t they have family issues like us (Just like lesser successful brothers and their families are looked down upon) And by the way MAheep what’s up with the accent during the show? Dude, even if you were born and raised abroad, my dear you are a Mumbaikar now for the last 20 odd years, right?
Plus, ladies if you have seen the show, see what all they do to look like this. You might argue that they are partying and drinking and smoking but how come their skin or body does not show? Boss, blame it on the science, botox, and fad (liquid) diets. It is a cost they pay to be everywhere and yet look like a million bucks every single time; But accompanied by Depression, fear of missing out, anxiety attacks, panic attacks, various life threatening diseases…To get a clearer picture just watch the Koffee with Karan episode and see it for yourself.
I think the reason K Jo made this show was to show us all, Viewers! don’t think the lives of these Bollywood Wives is FABULOUS…
