Desilting!!
Somehow contractors in MCGM simply don’t wish to learn from their past mistakes. Case in point is a firm by the name of Madhani and company, the same firm who had been blacklisted in the road scam are once more active doing what they do best. That is scamming the corporation. When an SIT is already inquiring about the Mithi desilting scam, a new scam is just about to be unveiled. Basically the scam is all about fleecing corporations for charging for desilting and not doing the silting work as desired. It’s all about everyone being merry at the cost of the corporation.
In the current desilting work, the game is being played by two players each interested in renting out their machines which more or less have no additional purpose than to increase the rates. Such is the margin in the meagre projects of the 100cr that is divided in 3 packages that a Maratha strongman had to intervene to mediate between the two rival groups holding monopoly over the rentals of two machines i.e. Pantoons and Poclain machines with boom placers. It seems that a new kid on the block Mr. Nitin Dhonde Patil (Vaibhav hydraulics )along with Mr Madhani is driving the process and tying up the cartel. The other group is headed by Mr Bhushan Salunke, a close relative of a congress stalwart.
Lot of other agitated contractors who have felt cheated due to the MOU which prevents them from qualification have filed a writ in the Hon’ble High Court highlighting the shortfalls but the corporation for reasons unknown is turning a blind eye. I think the AMC (projects) has to know that his predecessor had to face the heat due to various such blatant scams done in the previous regime. Also an SIT is already active due to the questions raised by a legislator of the ruling party on the manipulation done in the shoddy work of the previous desilting Mithi work.
I feel going by the current scenario for the last 3 years, corporations should not ask for bids but rather should declare their chosen contractor thus saying at least cost on the bidding process.
Now it will be interesting to see if Madhani will be gracious enough to grant which package to another bidder than him.
